The Control Room Awards were established to recognise outstanding achievement in critical control rooms. 

 

Lifetime Achievement.png

The Lifetime Achievement Award

The Lifetime Achievement Award is in recognition of outstanding achievement and contribution to the emergency services or another critical public service, in relation to their work in the control room over a period of long service. This individual will have contributed a number of years' service, showing passion for their work and its impact on the community, being widely acknowledged as having reached the pinnacle of their service.  Judges will be looking for:

  • A history of distinguished service - at least 10 years - within a control room or associated emergency service functions

  • At least one example of a time when this person made a lasting contribution in critical control room operations

  • At least one example of outstanding leadership, inspiring others and gaining the respect of professional peers

  • Demonstration of a definite and positive influence on control room operations at a local or national level

 

Services to the Public.png

The Award for Services to the Public | Sponsored by telent

Recognising a true ambassador of the control room, this award is for an individual who lives and breathes their role in supporting the public. The winner should demonstrate their loyalty and public-thinking in all that they do, not just when inside the control room, but in their everyday lives. Judges will be looking for:

  • At least one example of when this person has embodied the spirit and ethos of public service

  • At least one example of going the extra mile for members of the community that they serve

  • At least one example of overcoming challenge(s) to deliver exceptional service to the public

 

Call Taker of the Year.jpg

Control Room Call Taker of the Year

This award recognises an individual who has demonstrated their outstanding skills and capabilities when taking 999 or 101 calls. This could be on one occasion or across multiple incidents in the last year. Judges will be looking for:

  • At least one example of this individual demonstrating outstanding skill in handling a particular incident in their call taker role, explaining the circumstances and their actions

  • At least one example of how this individual has inspired others in the control room to deliver exceptional service in their role as a call taker

  • A detailed summary of how this person has gone above and beyond their call of duty and why they're worthy of this award

 

Dispatcher of the Year.jpg

Control Room Dispatcher of the Year

In recognition of an individual who operates in a dispatcher role within the control room and who has gone above-and-beyond in their role in last 12 months. Judges will be looking for evidence that this individual has exceeded expectations and made a proven difference to the lives of those they have supported in the community.  Judges will be looking for:

  • At least one example of exceptional performance in handling a particular incident in their role, explaining the circumstances and their actions

  • At least one example of how this person has collaborated with other control room personnel to deliver an outstanding end-result in a time of emergency, for example partner agencies and colleagues in the call-taker function

  • A detailed summary of how this person has gone above and beyond their call of duty and why they're worthy of this award

 

Young Achiever of the Year.jpg

Young Achiever of the Year 2019

The Young Achiever of the Year recognises the success of young people up to the age of 30, or who are young in service, working in a control room environment. Nominations should demonstrate that the young person has excelled in their employment, training or education in the control room, or has overcome substantial barriers in reaching where they are today.  Judges will be looking for:

  • Evidence that this person has made a significant contribution to the success of their team

  • At least one example of performing beyond the expectations associated with someone of their age and experience

  • At least one example of proactive self-development in their skillset for their control room role

  • Demonstration of passion and pride for their work using real-life examples

The Community Champion Award

In recognition of an individual who has the local community at the heart of everything they do - at work and outside. Judges will consider entries recognising an array of contribution to the community, including but not limited to: excellent community relations, fundraising activity or tangibly supporting vulnerable groups or individuals. In all entries, judges will be looking for:

  • At least one example of selfless commitment to supporting the community they serve

  • Demonstration of passion and pride for their role in supporting the community around the control room

  • Real-life examples of praise from members of the community about the individual with details of the circumstances

Leader of the Year 2019

This award recognises outstanding leadership in the control room. Judges will be looking for clear evidence that nominees have demonstrated ability in leading people, creating substantive organisational change, inspiring others, managing relationships, building trust and delivering exceptional professional results. Your award entry should demonstrate:

  • Examples of when the individual has created and built buy-in for the vision in his or her organisation, department or team

  • Reference to examples of how the individual has created a culture in which staff feel able to raise concerns and make suggestions for improvements, as well as making staff feel valued and engaged

  • Improvements to the organisation, department or team as a direct result of what the individual has implemented

  • Any other relevant examples of why the nominee is a worthy winner of the leadership award

 

Team of the Year.png

The Team of the Year Award

This award recognises team spirit in the control room. Judges will be looking for team working in planning and executing service strategies, first-class collaboration and performance, demonstrated by outstanding results and outcomes for the people they're serving in the community. Your award entry should demonstrate:

  • Examples of exceptional team spirit that has enabled the delivery of outstanding results for the organisation, department or team, or for the wider community in which it serves

  • Demonstration of passion and pride for the collective work of the team using real-life examples

  • Evidence that this team has been acknowledged within the organisation, or if not, why it should have been using examples

 

Special Recognition for Bravery and Courage.png

Special Recognition Award for Bravery and Courage

This special award is in recognition of someone who has shown exceptional bravery and courage in their control room role during the last 18 months. This person may have overcome extreme adversity in their own life or have supported another individual or group as they face adversity. Judges will be looking for:

  • Detail about the circumstances or incident that prompted the nominee to demonstrate their bravery and courage

  • Personal accounts of how the nominee demonstrated their bravery and courage

  • Real life examples of how that individual has inspired those around them to behave with bravery and courage
