Hundreds of nominations flood in for the unsung heroes of the control room
The final count for entries to this year’s awards is at a new record with over 380 nominations from control rooms around the world…
After the success of this year’s inaugural event, the awards will return in March 2019 to once again recognise and celebrate the life-saving and life-changing work of control room staff.
With the support of emergency services organisations up and down the country, organiser APD Communications aims to make the awards a key feature of the UK’s control room workplace culture. Since opening in October 2018, over 350 nominations have been received, every one recognising the incredible work of individuals and teams in critical control rooms.
Nominated individuals and teams have come from organisations across the emergency services - covering the police, fire, ambulance and coastguard - as well as international public safety organisations and critical infrastructure providers. In some categories, more than sixty nominations were submitted, which is testimony to the community spirit and culture for recognition in the control room.
Fourteen organisations have also pledged their support for the awards as sponsorship partners - without their backing, the event just wouldn’t be possible. The sponsors are telent, British APCO, West Pier Telecom, ICCRA, Red Box, Plantronics, Sopra Steria, BAPCO Show, Emergency Services Show & Times, Affini, Hexagon and NPS.

What happens next?
The judges are meeting soon to select the finalists from over 380 entries. When the final shortlist is ready, we’ll share in early February.
All finalists will be invited to attend a prestigious awards ceremony on 7 March 2019 at the De Vere Orchard Hotel in Nottingham, where they will enjoy an evening of celebration, reward and recognition.
The cost of shortlisted nominees’ tickets is being covered by the generosity of our event sponsors, making it possible for all finalists to attend.
